Y2K Bags
Y2K is not a colour or a year. It is a way a bag was made for a window of about six years, between roughly 1999 and 2005, when houses leaned into shine, scale, and unapologetic logos and produced shapes that have outlasted every trend since.
Our Y2K archive lives inside that window. Patent hobos, mini shoulder bags, metallic crossbodies, the small structured pieces that defined the era's silhouette. Every one is sourced by hand in Tokyo, photographed on the day it lands, and listed one of one.

What makes a bag Y2K?
Most pieces from 1999 to 2005 hit at least two of the traits below. If a bag checks two or more, it earns the Y2K tag in our archive.
01 · Shape
Small, baguette, mini, or worn under the arm. Y2K shapes were intentionally compact — the era invented the underarm bag as we know it today.
02 · Material
Glossy, patent, metallic, or coated. The era loved a finish that caught light. Matte leather happens, but shine is the louder signal.
03 · Hardware
Chunky chain, oversized clasps, branded plaques, decorative D-rings. Y2K hardware was a feature, not just a fastener.
04 · Colour
Pastel pink, lilac, baby blue, ice white, silver, deep wine, espresso. The palette swings between candy and stormcloud.
05 · A playful detail
A charm, a tassel, a small accent — something that says the designer was having fun. The era did not take itself seriously, and the bags don't either.
06 · Logo presence
Visible branding, often centred, often large. The Y2K era was the first to treat the logo as the front pocket of the bag.
07 · Vintage clues
Creed-stamp era, dust bag from the right years, hardware that has aged into brass, a lining typeface that doesn't exist anymore. The small things confirm the rest.
Two or more traits and the piece qualifies. Most of our Y2K bags hit four or five.
How to wear Y2K in 2026
Y2K reads modern when it stays singular. One Y2K piece against the rest of an outfit that is quiet — a tank, a tailored trouser, a simple boot — lets the bag do the work it was designed to do.
The underarm carry is the era's gift. Worn close to the body, short strap, in colour. It changes a silhouette in a way that a structured shoulder bag never did. That is the move.

Are these actually from the early 2000s, or reissues?
Every bag in this archive is from the era. We do not stock reissues, modern interpretations, or look-alikes. The creed stamps, hardware patina, and lining finishes are all consistent with the years the original line was running.
Are they practical to use today?
The mini silhouettes hold a phone, card holder, lipstick, and keys with room left over. The medium pieces hold a phone plus an iPad or a small book. Y2K was never about volume — the era understood that a smaller bag is a sharper choice.
How do I read the dimensions?
Every listing has measurements in centimetres on each piece. Width × height × depth. Compare against a bag you already own — that is the fastest way to know whether the proportion will work for you.
How do I keep patent and metallic finishes looking good?
Patent likes a dry cotton cloth and a cool environment. Avoid direct sun, and avoid pressing it against dark fabrics that can transfer. Metallic finishes are even simpler — soft cloth, no chemical cleaners. Both materials stay beautiful for decades if you do nothing dramatic to them.
