Sourced from a small private seller in Lisbon's Bairro Alto, in the row of unmarked apartments above the natural-wine bar. A Coach Madison Sophia satchel in the small size — gathered, pleated black calfskin with the original silver Coach plaque sitting clean across the front.

The leather has the soft, hand-pleated movement that defined the Madison line — neither structured nor slouchy but somewhere uniquely its own. The silver-tone hardware shows almost no oxidation. The interior — the seller noted some light glue residue inside the lining, which is honest, otherwise the bag's exterior is essentially unworn.

The Madison line was Coach's quiet apex — the moment the house was making something genuinely beautiful before scaling pulled the line in another direction. The small Sophia is the most wearable shape from the family, and in black it answers a question every wardrobe eventually asks.
